		<description>Radio gardening is a radiophonic environment, mixing heterogeneous content, formats and traditions of radiomaking within radio’s own material complexity. It consists of a transmission ecosystem created with Micro FM transmitters in network, which narrowcast different participative sound pools such as the sonicgarden in collaboration with radio entusiasts in Lagos, Nigeria and the seedbiblioteek in dialogue with Zayaan Khan from Cape Town. It also incorporates environment specific live transmissions in different scales and in dialogue with diy audio and transmission technologies.

It is an ongoing experimental and decentralised form of radio-making and performative archiving. It is currently installed at Lantz'scher Skulpturenpark as part of the exhibition on damp earths we wander, telling in German, Japanese, English and Portuguese - together with field recording and live tranmissions, the story of a cybernated radio network coming about in the 1930s in the Brazilian Amazon. It has been exhibited at SAVVY Contemporary in November 2020 in the exhibition INSIDE/OUT: Processing Archives and took the shape of a performance in March 2021 during the conference Crafting a Sonic Urbanism: Listening to Non Human Life. Together with Niko de Paula Lefort, Radio Gardening was performed again in October 2021 as part of the media art festival lab30 in Ausburg, Germany. In 2022 it has been installed at the INSTITUTO INHOTIM in Brazil and at Floating University in Berlin, and presented to the public through soundwalks.

		<description>The Ascension of Uli Schwarz
 live storytelling / sonic performance, radio installation (both in collaboration with Niko de Paula Lefort), etching printed series, social media performance, creative writing
The Ascension of Uli Schwarz is an artistic research on the Brazilian long term whitening program, in relation to Germany’s white supremacist project still underlying society and politics. The multimodal storytelling develops different languages according to the supporting media, finding in them all a balance between noise and information in which ambiguity allows conflictual aspects of miscegenation and the rhetorics of privilege to emerge. The piece plays generativelly with operations such as excess and redundancy, and involves at different instances and scales environmental interactivity, artificial intelligence, the takeover of pre-existing infrastructures and appropriation of content at various levels.
The work attempts to situate itself in political and discursive ambivalent zones, hoping that in this liminality some disguised mechanisms that sustain the status quo might surface. The artists walk on a tightrope: on one side, attempting to use their positionality and self-criticism to criticize at large how the instrumentalisation and commodification of decolonial and anti-discriminatory discourses have been incorporated by the social apparatus, ultimately acting against its own causes and maintaining hegemonic structures; on the other side, in constant risk of doing exactly that: packaging biography, family trauma and identity development opportunistically.
A double-edged situatedness allows playful strategies and a locus of speech around questions of social mobility and representation. The project draws inspirations from different examples of charlatanism in the arts and in the artists' personal journey, and also explores systems of fashion, specially situating them within actors that didn’t experience marginalization symmetrically.

By creating different intimate situations, specially by exposing oneself, personal family pictures and stories, the artists play with today’s entanglements between private, public and what is published. Since the last decade, how do we grant authority to authors? How do they take that responsibility? What role do personal connections play in building trust on information? How human connection is disrupted by misinformation, strengthening the apparatus?
Live Performance, in collaboration with Niko de Paula Lefort 4 low-power radio transmitters, 10 radio receivers, modular synthesizer, microphone, SuperCollider patches, placebo pills
Closed group performance for maximum 15 people, 40 Minutes
A live storytelling performance, in which voice and field recordings are expanded by the space, the micro FM radio environment and modular synthesis. A trickster narrator conducts the audience into a journey of paranormal experiences, family stories, and sublime encounters between the self and the environment. The narration is supported by hypnotic dramaturgical elements and psychoacoustics, as well as the possibility of taking placebo medication. By sharing personal stories in a closed circle, trust is built but often put in question as the experience is also creating discomfort and doubt.

Radio Installation, in collaboration with Niko de Paula Lefort
4 low-power radio transmitters, 10 radio receivers, 40 minutes 4 channel sound composition

A micro FM radio environment transmits a non-linear narrative that mixes family stories, hypnotic genealogical cues and rhetorical phrases taken from different contexts, usually disguising a resistance to engagement and to the recognition of privilege and power dynamics. A fabric of lively noise envelops the narrator, making it necessary to engage physically with the apparatuses in order to find meaning, and lose it again. The spatial design, composition and intonations (both from the voice as from the acoustics of the receivers with the space) evoke different modes of recounting: storytelling, psychotherapy, inner monologue, stream of consciousness, confession, gossip, manipulation, brainwashing, proselytism... The technological components are installed appropriating existing infrastructures on site.&#38;nbsp;
&#38;nbsp;
Etching Printed Series 7 prints on watercolor paper from zinc plate etching using toner transfer
In collaboration with the Bisonte Foundation in Florence, the series is the result of a manual blending of family portraits and snapshots of artworks from the latest edition of the Biennale de Venezia. The printing technique itself together with environmental factors participate in the printmaking process so the result follows the ambivalence between noise and information performed throughout the whole project. The ambiguity present in every print unveils our prescribed gaze, but also allows an engagement that results, if successful, not in the realization of a model but in its distortion.

Social Media Performance
Instagram profile @embranquecida, AI generated images using Mid Journey, creative writing

Using the social media platform Instagram as a stage for a long durational cinematographic storytelling, Uli Schwarz (they/them)© share family pictures, self-portraits, family stories and rhetorical sentences. The images are artificially generated with Mid Journey, using family archives, snapshots of artworks from the latest edition of the Biennale de Venezia, and stills from the work “Generaciones” of the visual artist Laura Fong Prosper. By playing dramaturgically with the apparatus revolving Instagram, a generative narrative unfolds. Uli Schwarz wants to play around with programs - the brazilian whitening program, the german white supremacist program, and how those currently interpolate the social program on Instagram - revealing the “degree of importance of the apparatus upon the types of ontological relations that we establish with it, both as a model and an instrument.” (Apparatus in Flusseriana: An Intellectual Toolbox, Rodrigo Maltez Novaes, 2016). The social media performance is not given by the artist but by the apparatus dramaturgically operated, the profile is an object that is not performing a role but allowing a role to be attributed and emerge from within.

My grandmother was born in the middle of nowhere in the state of Rio de Janeiro, to an indigenous mother and faith healer father, along with nine siblings whose names all started with the letter “I”. From what she could tell me, their livelihoods were what geographers call “subsistence”. Her house was made of adobe, I know that because someone told me that when she was a child, she would sometimes have the blues and hide under her bed and scratch the floor so much that it would dig a hole and hurt her fingers. Most of her stories involved non-living entities that would intervene with the events of the living, and also about relatives that would come from everywhere: Switzerland, Middle East, Africa... Her humble and syncretic upbringing, and how open and unprejudiced she was, always gave me an underlying sense of humility that I held on to growing up in a deeply unequal country. Despite hardships when I was a child, in my lifetime my family was never deeply subjugated and we all ascended socially for various reasons. In the last 20 years of her life, my grandmother lived in a house with a pool and a tropical garden, and 11 televisions. She died before Bolsonaro was elected but around 2013/14 we had hard clashes in my visits to Brazil because of the contrast of my experience abroad and the rageful inaccurate statements she was replicating. Around that time, she told me - in a context unrelated to the political events - that her grandparent was a farmer who owned slaves. I did the math and started to speculate that her ancestors were not only a melting pot that crossed each other’s path, but also small farmers whose business model was based on forced unpaid labor, and didn’t manage to reform their operations when slavery was abolished, falling into poverty.

		<description>

Wild Design is an artistic research framework attentive to circumstances prevalence in human-environment relationships. It provokes through today’s polemic associations to the word “wild” and the presupposed definitions of “design” to think about the environment beyond naturalistic terms and to recognize decentralized forms of human agency — finding in the interface between ecology and cybernetics a ground to trouble and mend the environmentalist discussions of our times. Gambiarra and different examples of neotropical small scale food production systems, namely creole gardens and quilombola horticultures, support the research with models of open, process-oriented and complex networks emerging from feedback between humans and environment. A politics of responsibility is drafted from noise-information relationships based on undecidability and engagement. The research invites the imagination of media and generative arts beyond a technocratic paradigm.

		<description>Children’s Takeover&#38;nbsp;︎
Between July 31st and August 5th 2023, the Villa Romana in Florence was taken over by children, supported by the associations Archipel and The Rediscovery Planet, under the artistic direction of Monai de Paula Antunes. It consisted of an intensive performative program inhabiting the interface between art and education, while also participating firmly in contemporary art practices and discourses. Much has been happening at several scales in efforts to decentralise in order to decolonise artistic practices, bringing important political issues to discussion and pressuring necessary world changes. Inasmuch breakthroughs have been happening by shaking curatorial hierarchies, renouncing the dominance of object orientation and hearing and honouring non-hegemonic voices -, there is an eminent necessity to reintegrate joy and experience in the alternative worldings we are all engaged in through the arts. Children’s universes across cultures are permeated by primarily sensorial environmental experience. They practice daily a dialogical non-anthropocentric forming of matter that truly engages with the relationality of objects. Children’s timeless play of creation and destruction and re-creation is an endless folding and unfolding of worlds - a generative purposelessness, a bodily trust, constant movement, sensuality and material-discursivity this project wishes to embrace and potentialise.Archipel invited children for a week-long participatory process of taking over Villa Romana, enabling a laboratory for dynamic conviviality and public domesticity. The main guideline was to work with an elemental and playful world experience and therefore engaging with different qualities of earthly materials, sand, compost, rocks, allowing the momentary and also building micro-worlds in order to do micro-politics.The Rediscovery Planet supported artists and children with pedagogical anti-discriminatory resources, practicing intersectionality through playfulness in narrative, movement and diverse forms of communication.Dudu Kouate was a special guest conducting the formation of an environmental percussion ensemble with the children using improvisation and storytelling strategies, the ORCHAOSTRA.The exhibition designed by Silvia Noronha showed the work developed by the children with the greatness it deserved. Therefore the biggest props go to Francesco, Fabrizio, Maria, Nour, Nuria, Obeida, Lila, Joia, Lia, Edoardo, Jacopo, Linda, Samuele, Samuel, Enea, Cosimo and Cosimo, whose participation carried enormous enchantment into this art project.takeover

		<description>Wild Design: Delving Into Circumstances Prevalence With Gambiarra and Gardening&#38;nbsp;artistic research awarded the Elsa-Neumann Fellowship 2022Universität der Künste Berlin
troubles of wild and designhuman-environment communication model
decentrilized human agencyability to respond to circunstances over predetermined structures

circumstances -&#38;gt; emerging changes in and of environmentswild + design =

creative contradictions

&#38;nbsp;

verb&#38;lt;-&#38;gt;noun“gambiarra process”

“By returning uncertainty to the world, gambiarra makes it possible to indicate that other worlds are possible.” Helena S. Assuncao &#38;amp; Ricardo Fabrino Mendonca, A estética política da gambiarr cotidiana [The political aesthetics of everyday kludges]

As it offers no permanent solution, it opens room for further accidents.

It can only emerge from something else and it’s never at a final state.

shameless technical objects, Fernanda Bruno

audacity, pervesion, openness

-&#38;gt; point of insertion, black boxes
-&#38;gt; ANT“This openness in gambiarra exposes cognitive, material and aesthetical complex networks.”

improvisation, utilitarian readjustment, subversion of industrial design, reverse engineering, risk and instability of an object’s usability and technological disobedience. (Giuliano Obici)

gambiarra is an “emergent behavior in this ecosystem, which deals with unconventional solutions, and comes to encompass a spectrum of applications and uses related to the context of a culture mediated by technology.”3 (Obici 2014, p. 10).

Architecture of Necessity, Ernesto Oroza
- technological

disobedience

rejection of Western objects’ identity and inflexibility and a challenge to the authority of technology

technological landscape where components are seldom designed from scratch and are instead imported from specific foreign production and consumption contexts

restorative futures

- sustainability approaches &#38;amp; DIY cultures praising resourcefulness, hopefulness, engagement, and restorative qualities, along with its insubordination to an oppressive sociotechnical reality

unstable, often wasteful, dangerous and always maintaining an openness to further events that could result in additional unexpected crises

-&#38;gt; generative properties of contradiction/ambivalence
&#38;nbsp;
-&#38;gt; repair x design

non-human centered model of design that responds to emergent circumstances, namely, is in dialogue with the environment

-&#38;gt; anti-technocratic design
-&#38;gt; human environment relationship

Gambiarra can be read as an emergent behavior part of complex, non-linear, and dynamic design processes between humans and the environment, as well as the various non-human actors and systems that shape those relationships

a gambiarra or doing a gambiarra unveil an open system in which human agency is responding to the circumstances, namely, to the environment in a decentralized communication model.

gambiarra rejects the notion that only formal, technical expertise can produce legitimate solutions to problems. Instead, it promotes participatory and decentralized decision-making that accommodates diverse perspectives and approaches to problem-solving, including non-human perspectives.

Neotropical small scale food production systems

creole gardens, kitchen gardens, slave gardens, quilombola horticulture, tropical household level food production

density and variety of crops, the dominance of food trees over vegetable crops

...such a small plot could support a “numerous family” (Kingsley 1872). Likewise, the same few colonial historians writing about the topic were troubled by their “crowded, confused, and haphazard” aesthetics (ibidem)...
-&#38;gt; not tabula rasa
-&#38;gt; landscape management
-&#38;gt; open system, processual feedback between humans and environment

-&#38;gt; harvest is not central but a&#38;nbsp;

stage of a continuous open-ended process

human agency is also not engineering processes, but dynamically developing into and together with the system

POLITICS OF RESPONSABILITY
-&#38;gt; care and

response-ability&#38;nbsp;Puig della Bellacasa, Haraway (natureculture&#38;nbsp;indeterminacy)&#38;nbsp;

link between care and domestication that relies on attunement to feedback, rather than a predominance of a human program

care as a deeply relational practice that involves ongoing responsiveness and adaptation to changing circumstances and environments

-&#38;gt; Flusser, openness, ambivalence, engagement
anti-tecnocracy: not the realisation of a model but its distortion
The Parasite, Serres:

- WILD DESIGN
open systems

confluence between cybernetics and ecology, proposing a de-alienating and anti-technocratic form of human-environment communication

- environemental discourses of out times
non-human agency,&#38;nbsp;relationships between humans and the environment that engage with noise

- anti-technocratic Media Arts

creativity, aesthetics of interactivity and feedback

-&#38;gt; generative human-environment communication
-&#38;gt; more-than-human inteligence
-&#38;gt; counter-(aesthetic)narratives
peripheral (ecological) cybernetic communication models

		<description>Arrayed Vessels
A collaboration with Silvia Noronha
commissioned by the IFA Gallery Stuttgart for the exhibtion (Re)Born from VolcanoesA transgenerational collective process of engagement with soil that involved the collection of materials around the volcanoes Etna and Stromboli and on site, combining and recombining them, and creating pieces once again transformed by the fire and other continuous processes, such as petrification. The artwork proposes different intuitive forms of playing with soil and with the unexpected outcomes of its interaction with fire, air and water.&#38;nbsp;
The vessels are not single object outcomes but a set inseparable from their whole. They are vehicles for a continuous movement of transformation that will go on throughout the exhibition, as well as a medium for our awareness about the connectivity and pulse that reigns on Earth/earth. The parts and the elements created individually and together compose a body of dynamic interactions and reflections on soil at several scales, from a little pebble found in the backyard to the atmosphere that involves our whole planet.

Incessant Bassin&#38;nbsp;
A collaboration with Maria Sideri
Incessant Basin is an expanding sonic diary practice and a performative archive connected with a sound installation and a transmission environment. The sound installation compiles recordings and sounds from the cities of Athens, Alexandria, and Marseille and other places in Greece and Egypt visited during the artistic residency School for Sonic Memory, part of the project ALEXANDRIA: (RE)ACTIVATING COMMON URBAN IMAGINARIES. The material gives the stage to the materiality and to the agency of sounds to narrate their own stories of the cities and their watery lives. A transmission environment connected with a sound installation offers a dynamic structure to host and display this collection, in which the experience in the space generates the output.

		<description>
	Radio Otherwise
Together with a wide network of radio enthusiasts, Kate Donovan, Monai de Paula Antunes and Niko de Paula Lefort explore the plurality of experiences involved in radio-making in connection to ecological thinking. Radio Otherwise is an ongoing artistic research project motivated by the many knots which art, knowledge-making/sharing and communication encounter.

Thinking and doing radio otherwise means focussing beyond purely anthropogenic transmissions, recognising relationality within the spectrum of more-than-human radio ecologies: the sun's rays, lightning strikes, meteors, the radio memories held in soil from radioactive pollutants. It also means to research and reflect upon alternative histories and forms of radio-making through its complex materialities and multifarious aural traditions; special attention is paid to the spatial qualities of radio and radio-making, from experimenting withnomadic outdoor studios, building small-scale transmission ecologies (Friz), to observing how the frequency spectrum is occupied in place of rich biodiversity (Krause).

Radio Otherwise promotes radio's emancipatory potential, inspired by pirate, free and community radios, as well as the MiniFM movement (Kogawa), and supported by decolonial and feminist literature and practices. It recognises the recent turn towards bioacoustics and the connected practices of listening as ways to re-connect with 'nature'. But the power dynamics of listening can be just as violent as those of 'the gaze'. Radio Otherwise brings listening together in a constellation with ecologies and cybernetics, in an attempt to carefully and critically move beyond the human/nature dichotomy, to deal with messy boundary-crossings in order to recognise situated relationalities with/in place; we seek dialogical relations with environments, through the development of 'media' as well knowledge sharing/making processes, encouraged by the boundlessness of radio's artistic and cultural expressions. In this way, listening and radio-making can also be methods to sit with uncomfortable relationalities, the relentlessness of the Anthropocene.

		<description>Archipel Stations Community Radio
Archipel Stations is an&#38;nbsp;on air and online community radio for contributions from all who would like to share their voice and/or work.

Archipel Stations Community Radio is an itinerant webradio occupying venues worldwide, from where events are broadcast and programs from elsewhere are transmitted live. We are a public-spirited platform and work to become a decentralised organisation for lively exchange, emancipatory practices and encounters. By mixing virtual/physical spaces with an all-embracing curatorship and the use of various analog and digital radio technologies,
we participate on the emergence of new geographies and unstable power dynamics.We host a weekly two hours of FM broadcast on FR-BB (88,4 FM Berlin and 90,7 FM Potsdam) and every firth Tuesday of a month we organise 18 hours of live broadcast from different spaces around the world.

Archipel Stations participates in different forms in artistic and educational projects, for example, our participation on SAVVY Contemporary’s exhibition SOIL IS AN INSCRIBED BODY: ON SOVEREIGNTY AND AGROPOETICS, for which we expanded our live radio by experimenting with a participative and generative radio format using a Telegram group “hack” put&#38;nbsp; together in collaboration with radio aporee. The outcome of this experiment became&#38;nbsp; a public platform with a continuous streaming on our webradio. The members of&#38;nbsp; this group are agropoets, such as members of the researched initiatives, artists&#38;nbsp; and researchers. The chat group grew into a dialogical, plural and decentralised way of sharing experiences and knowledge, as well as an art piece itself, bringing connection and new senses of spatialities to all agents involved. The voice memo and audios posted in the group were transformed in RSS files that composed an expanded archive of poetry and struggle regarding food and land sovereignty around the world.

		<description>Spree ~ Channelsea Radio Group is a project by:
Archipel StationsBlanc Sceol (Stephen Shiell &#38;amp; Hannah White)Radio OtherwiseSoundcampSurge CooperativeWe setup floating sound labs in different locations, as mobile platforms to explore the social, organisational and environmental ecologies of rivers, their shores and inter-tidal zones - specially focused on the Channelsea in London and the Spree in Berlin.
We ran a series of reading~listening sessions both in London and Berlin (together with the Zabriskie Bookshop), along with a series of live radio transmissions bringing the rivers and their people into contact.

We are grateful for the framework and support provided by the Cultural Bridge Fund. Cultural Bridge brings together The Goethe Institue and Arts Council England to create cultural projects between the UK and Germany.

		<description>ring

Performative Information and Embodiment System for Time Travel and other Multidimensional Perceptual Experiences

ring is a time machine. More specifically, it is a system for processing and embodiment of information. It could be also&#38;nbsp;called a game, or a play.

A combination of different techniques from psychology and elements of play (chance, confrontation, simulation and vertigo) were used to design the functioning of ring. The methods were taken mostly from systemic therapies, hypnosis and meditation skills. Within an artistic and playful context, they support the channeling of imagination,
memory and vast information that rationally is not being perceived. In the course of the game - through collectivity and spatial rearrangements - narrative and perception are dynamically expanded, enabling participants to experience multidimensional settings of time and space.
